Acceptance

Accepting is not about pretending that the pain isn't real.  It's not about saying that the damage was never done or the hurt doesn't exist.  Acceptance is about leaning in to the hurt and letting it be whatever it is. When we avoid our pain, it stays where it is, hidden for a time but ready to pounce when the moment allows. When we avoid our pain, we allow our past to control us. Today, explore what it's like to be with your pain.  What emotions surface? What happens in your body?  Show yourself the same kind of compassion that you would with a small child.  Allow yourself to feel what you feel and when you are ready, explore what it's like to let it go.  Maybe not forever, but just for this moment.  For now, explore what it's like to let it go.
